Introduction

What are ELT?

ELT is primarily and fundamentally about teaching English. English Language Teaching (ELT) includes various approaches, techniques and methods that are involved in teaching English, to people with English as First Language and also those who use it as a second and a foreign language.

The goal of learning or teaching English language is to empower the students to utilize English for communication.

What are EST?

ESL stands for English as a Second Language. ESL is learning English in a country where English is dominantly spoken or the official language. For example, students from non-native English-speaking countries who come to the U.S. and Canada for an extended time learn English as a Second Language. They acquire English to communicate in the dominant language spoken in the community where they reside.

When English is used as the predominant language for communication at work and for education, but not at home, it is termed as ESL (English as a Second Language). This happens in the immigrant communities of countries such as Australia and New Zealand or Canada.

What are EFT?

EFL stands for English as a Foreign Language. EFL is learning English in a non-English-speaking country. For example, students in China who are learning English are considered EFL students because English is not the country’s official language.

Countries such as Brazil, Japan and Thailand, do not use English for communication, but only at the elementary levels of education. They use English only for international communication, for example, where there is a lack of another common language.

What is LSRW?

English language skills depend upon four core skills. These skills are essential for learning the English language that is:

Listening skills: It improves the imagination and vocabulary of a learner. While listening we used to visualize the scene and memorize in our memory.

Speaking skills: When a learner speaks, he gets to know his mistakes and he can improve it further.

Reading skills: Reading a book or a passage helps in improving the vocabulary and concentration of a learner.

Writing skills: When we write we get to know, what we are writing and do we know the spellings of all words.
